Mitochondrial Eve

Browsing CNN this morning I came across an article that suggests we were pushed to the brink of extinction. I wonder if we made any sort of list 70,000 years ago. Ha. But it also referred to something I think is fascinating: mitochondrial Eve. Here's the article: Humans nearly wiped out 70,000 years ago, study says - CNN.com and the quote:

"Studies using mitochondrial DNA, which is passed down through mothers, have traced modern humans to a single "mitochondrial Eve," who lived in Africa about 200,000 years ago."

If you're bored research it a little more. Makes ya think! Or it did me at least.
